Grandmother’s House in Hubei, China

Medium: Graphite and charcoal on paper

Year: 2020

Description: This sketch was created in memory of my grandmother’s house in China, which was torn down not long after. The date included in the piece marks my mother’s birth year, as she spent her childhood growing up in this home. The building fades gradually into the background, like a memory slowly slipping away. The house itself was drawn using graphite pencils, and the background and clouds were created with charcoal.
